Sgroppino is an absolute gem from Italy, perfect for those warm summer days when you're craving something light and refreshing.
This delightful treat can be enjoyed both as a dessert and a drink. It's incredibly easy and quick to prepare, making it a hit for garden parties or a cozy evening for two, where you can simply relax and unwind.
We've prepared this delicious refreshment with homemade lemon sorbet, adding a fresh, zesty twist.
I first heard about Sgroppino as a child on a family vacation in Venice. While my parents enjoyed the drink, I was thrilled with the S-shaped cookies that came with it. 😊
Many years later, I finally got to try Sgroppino myself, and it was love at first sip. Just like the classic Aperol Spritz and the refreshing Watermelon Spritzer, Sgroppino is simply perfect for those hot summer days!
🥘 Ingredients
- Lemon Sorbet - Homemade is best, but store-bought will work just as well.
- Prosecco - This Italian sparkling wine originates from the village of Prosecco. It bears the "controlled indication of origin" (D.O.C. = Designation of Origin), which guarantees that only white sparkling wines from specific regions in Italy can be called Prosecco. These D.O.C. certifications are essential for maintaining the wine's quality and heritage.
- Vodka - Opt for high-quality vodka. We recommend using Grey Goose or Belvedere for a smooth and refined finish.
- Lemon Twist: A beautiful garnish that adds an extra touch of elegance. For a detailed guide on how to make the perfect lemon twist, check out our blog post.
See the recipe card for quantities.
🔪 Instructions
Step 1: Put 1-2 scoops of lemon sorbet in a serving glass.
Step 2: Add the vodka.
Step 3: Top up with Prosecco.
Step 4: Garnish your delightful dessert/drink with a beautiful lemon twist.
💕 Delightful Pairing
- Homemade Sacher Torte: The rich, chocolatey flavors of this classic torte contrast beautifully with the bright and bubbly Sgroppino.
- Mini Blueberry Pavlova: The airy meringue and fresh berries enhance the refreshing lemon and Prosecco notes in Sgroppino.
- No-Bake Chocolate Ricotta Cheesecake: This creamy, no-bake cheesecake made with ricotta offers a rich chocolate flavor that pairs wonderfully with the citrus notes of your Sgroppino.
- Ultimate Double Chocolate Bundt Cake: Indulge in this decadent double chocolate bundt cake. Its moist, rich texture and intense chocolate flavor create a luxurious pairing.

Lemon sorbet in a drink! This was so yummy! I mean, we have very few days warm enough here in Ireland for it, but the stars just aligned yesterday, so I gave it a try at an evening with friends. Everyone loved it! I even made one with alcohol free prosecco, to lower the content a bit and it was just as lovely. (I'm a lightweight...2 glasses and I plain fall asleep.)

Hehe, It's great that you could try it out and liked it! And a good night's sleep never hurt anyone! Hasn't it? ๐
