🥘 Ingredients

Ingredients for making a raspberry lemon drop martini - vodka, cointreau or triple sec, lemon juice and raspberry syrup.
  • Cubed Ice
  • Vodka – pure or with flavor. When I use a flavored vodka, I always like to use vanilla vodka. But you can also use raspberry vodka to enhance the raspberry flavor.
  • Cointreau, Triple Sec, or Grand Marnier – all three are orange-flavored liqueurs.
  • Lemon juice – use freshly squeezed lemon juice to get the perfect flavor.
  • Raspberry syrup – homemade or store-bought.
  • Raspberries for garnish – fresh or frozen

See the recipe card for quantities.

🔪 Instructions

Step One: Prepare your cocktail shaker and fill it with ice cubes.

Step Two: Add vodka, Cointreau, raspberry syrup, and lemon juice to the shaker.

Step Three: Shake the ingredients well to combine and chill the mixture.

Step Four: Fine-strain the cocktail into a chilled serving glass to remove any ice or chipped ice.

Fine strain the raspberry lemon martini into the serving glass.

Step Five: Add a few raspberries to a cocktail spike for a delightful finishing touch.

Carefully add the raspberry spike into the raspberry lemon drop martini.

🍸 Variations

You can vary this Cointreau lemon drop martini as follows:

Switch pure Vodka with my all-time-favorite vanilla vodka or a yummy raspberry vodka. Raspberry vodka enhances the raspberry flavor.

If the drink gets too heavy on the raspberry flavor, replace the raspberry syrup with simple syrup.

Play with the different varieties of orange liqueur. The Lemon Drop Martini calls for Triple Sec in the original. Personally, I like Cointreau best because it is more rounded and has a wonderfully intense aroma of sweet oranges.

💭 Top tips

Always use freshly squeezed lemon juice, not bottled or store-bought. It adds a better flavor.

Don’t forget to fine-strain your drink into the serving glass to remove any small ice chips. This gives the drink its silky, smooth texture.

🥶 How do I chill a cocktail glass properly?

The most efficient way to get a perfectly chilled glass is to put them in the freezer beforehand. I usually like to give it at least a half hour, but if you’re like me and plan to have friends and family over for backyard grilling and dinner parties this summer, you could also throw your glasses in the night before.

If you don’t have that kind of freezer space or that kind of time between refills for your guests, another method you could adopt is filling each cocktail glass with ice cubes. Once it comes time to start filling your glasses, you can dump out the ice and start pouring the cocktail.

🙋🏻 FAQ

Why is it called Lemon Drop Martini?

Norman Jay Hobday invented the Lemon Drop Martini in his bar, Henry Africa’s, in the 1970s. It was originally served in a cocktail glass. The drink’s name comes from its similar sweet and sour taste to Lemon Drop sweets.

I was looking for some good drinks for a girl’s night I have coming up and decided to give this one a test run. I used vanilla vodka because it sounded like it would be especially good! I’m glad I did because it was delicious! I’m excited to see how my girls like it this weekend but I’m sure they will!
