Divine pistachio latte with pistachio liqueur, served in beautiful drinking glass, resting on dark surface scattered with coffee beans and pistachios.

A creamy, nutty, dessert like coffee drink made with strong coffee, warm milk, pistachio liqueur, whipped cream, and crushed pistachios.

This boozy pistachio latte is a creamy, gently sweet coffee drink made with strong coffee, warm milk, and cream pistachio liqueur. It is not your regular coffee shop pistachio latte. This one is cozy, indulgent, and much more like a little dessert in a glass.

And honestly, who could say no to a pistachio latte that tastes like coffee and dessert had a very delicious little daydream?

I had the chance to try a delicious pistachio liqueur from a local producer here in Austria, and of course my first thought was, “This needs coffee.” I wanted to keep the recipe simple so the pistachio flavor could really shine. No complicated syrup, no long ingredient list, just strong coffee, warm milk, a good cream pistachio liqueur, and a soft whipped cream topping.

And because this is still a coffee drink, I want the coffee to have a proper place in the glass too. As an SCA certified coffee brewing professional, I always look for balance first, especially in creamy lattes like this one. Pistachio liqueur is already sweet, nutty, and indulgent, so your coffee base should bring a little strength. A double espresso is perfect, but a moka pot, French press, or a stronger Clever Dripper brew can also work beautifully.

This is also not a Starbucks pistachio latte copycat. Their version is a non alcoholic coffee shop drink, usually built around pistachio flavoring. This boozy pistachio latte is different. It is richer, creamier, made with pistachio liqueur, and better suited as an after dinner coffee cocktail or a cozy grown up treat.

What I adored most was the garnish. I crushed the pistachios in a zip lock bag with a meat tenderizer, and the little crumbles looked so pretty. You get those lovely green pieces from the nut itself, plus tiny reddish bits from the pistachio skin. Sprinkled over whipped cream, they make the whole drink look special with almost no effort. If creamy coffee drinks make your heart happy too, you might also love my Eggnog Latte or this Iced Chocolate Almondmilk Shaken Espresso. What you’ll love about this recipe:

  • FANCY – This pistachio latte has that tiny luxury feeling, but it takes only a few minutes to make at home.
  • SIMPLE – You do not need a complicated coffee setup. A double espresso is lovely, but moka pot coffee, strong French press coffee, or a concentrated Clever Dripper brew will also work beautifully.
  • EASY – No homemade pistachio syrup needed. The cream pistachio liqueur does most of the work for us, bringing sweetness, nuttiness, creaminess, and that lovely dessert feeling all in one pour.
  • COZY – It is creamy, nutty, and gently sweet, like dessert in a glass without much effort.
  • GROWN-UP – It is perfect as an after dinner coffee when you want something special, but do not feel like making a full dessert.
  • PRETTY – A swirl of whipped cream and crushed pistachios make this latte look special with almost no extra work.

👅 What Does a Boozy Pistachio Latte Taste Like?

This boozy pistachio latte tastes creamy, nutty, gently sweet, and dessert like. The coffee gives it depth, the warm milk makes it soft and cozy, and the pistachio liqueur adds rich, indulgent pistachio flavor.

It is sweeter and creamier than a regular latte, but when you use a strong enough coffee base, it still tastes like a coffee drink. That is the sweet little balance we want here.

☕️ Boozy Pistachio Latte vs Regular Pistachio Latte

A regular pistachio latte is usually made with pistachio syrup, pistachio sauce, or pistachio paste. It is non alcoholic and more of an everyday coffee drink.

A Starbucks style pistachio latte is usually a seasonal coffee shop drink made with pistachio flavoring and a sweet topping.

This boozy pistachio latte is different because it uses cream pistachio liqueur. That makes it richer, creamier, and more grown up. It is less of a morning coffee and more of a cozy dessert drink or after dinner coffee cocktail.

I may make a non alcoholic homemade pistachio latte with pistachio paste in the future, because that sounds absolutely lovely too. But today, we are going for the creamy liqueur version.

🥘 Ingredients

Ingredients for a boozy pistachio latte - double espresso, creamy pistachio liqueur, milk, whipped cream and crushed pistachios.

Strong coffee

A double espresso is my favorite choice here because it gives the drink enough depth to balance the sweet pistachio liqueur.

You can also use:

The coffee should be bold enough to still come through after adding milk and liqueur.

Cream pistachio liqueur

This is the heart of the recipe. Since I live in Austria, I used a delicious pistachio liqueur from a local store, but you can use any cream pistachio liqueur you enjoy.

Look for one that tastes rich, nutty, and clearly like pistachios. The best pistachio liqueur for this drink should be pleasantly sweet, creamy, and flavorful enough that you would enjoy sipping it on its own.

If you are looking for an option to try, Borgata Pistachio Liqueur is an Italian-style pistachio cream liqueur with a velvety texture and a strong pistachio nut flavor. According to the product description, it is also dairy free and gluten free, which is especially helpful because many cream liqueurs do contain dairy. You can enjoy it on its own, over ice cream, or use it in this boozy pistachio latte.

Milk

Whole milk gives this latte the creamiest texture, but you can use your favorite milk here. Since most cream pistachio liqueurs contain dairy, this drink is not naturally dairy free. You can use dairy free milk, but check the liqueur label if you need the full drink to be dairy free.

Whipped cream

Crushed pistachios

The crushed pistachios make the drink look so pretty. I loved how the green and reddish pieces looked on top of the whipped cream.

You can chop them with a knife, but placing them in a zip lock bag and gently crushing them with a meat tenderizer works wonderfully.

Optional white chocolate

White chocolate shavings or a tiny drizzle of melted white chocolate can be lovely if you want to make the drink even more dessert like. Keep it light, because the liqueur already brings sweetness.

☕️ What Is the Best Pistachio Liqueur for This Latte?

The best pistachio liqueur for this latte is one that tastes creamy, nutty, and clearly like pistachio. I would avoid anything that tastes mostly like sugar with only a little nut flavor in the background.

I used a local Austrian pistachio liqueur (vomFASS), but if that is not available where you live, a pistachio cream liqueur such as Borgata Pistachio Liqueur can also work beautifully. It is described as velvety, pistachio-forward, and certified dairy free and gluten free, which makes it an interesting option if you need to avoid dairy.

Other styles can work too:

Each one will change the final flavor a little, so choose the one that sounds the most delicious to you. Since the liqueur does most of the sweetening in this recipe, pick one you would also enjoy sipping on its own.

🔪 How to Make a Boozy Pistachio Latte

Start by brewing your coffee. A double espresso is perfect, but strong moka pot coffee, French press coffee, or a stronger Clever Dripper brew will also work.

Pour the hot coffee into a heatproof glass or mug, then stir in the pistachio liqueur while the coffee is still hot. This helps the liqueur blend smoothly into the coffee.

Add a double espresso to the serving glass.
Add pistachio liqueur to the double espresso.

Warm your milk gently, then froth it until it is creamy and silky. If you have a steam wand, steam the milk to about 130 to 140°F or 55 to 60°C. If you do not have a steam wand, warm the milk on the stove and froth it with a handheld frother or whisk.

Pour the warm milk into the coffee and pistachio liqueur mixture. Spoon a little foam on top, then finish with whipped cream and crushed pistachios.

Pour frothed milk on top of the pistachio liqueur espresso mixture.
Sprinkle crushed pistachios on top of the whipped cream for an amazing look!

Serve it right away while it is warm, creamy, and cozy.

Note

Nora’s Coffee Tips

Do not add extra sugar or syrup at first. Pistachio liqueur is already sweet, and adding more sweetness can quickly make the drink taste heavy.

Use strong coffee. This is the easiest way to keep the drink balanced. If the coffee is too weak, the pistachio liqueur and milk will take over.

Do not boil the liqueur. Stir it into the hot coffee, but avoid heating it aggressively. Gentle heat keeps the creamy texture smooth.

Add a tiny pinch of salt if the drink tastes too sweet. Just a few grains can bring out the nutty pistachio flavor and make the latte taste more balanced.

Crush the pistachios right before serving. They look prettiest when they are freshly crushed and sprinkled over the whipped cream.

Serve it in a glass mug if you can. The creamy coffee color, whipped cream, and pistachio topping look so lovely together.

Serving Ideas

This pistachio latte is beautiful on its own, but it also pairs so well with creamy, nutty, and cozy desserts.

Serve it with Limoncello Ricotta Cake for a lovely citrus and pistachio pairing, or with Potato Flour Cake if you want something simple and soft beside your latte.

For a cozy dessert moment, try it with Chestnut Puree,Eggnog Truffles, or Homemade Baileys Chocolates.

And if you love creamy desserts, this layered pudding dessert with eggnog fits right into the same sweet, cozy world.

Cozy Coffee Note

This is exactly the kind of drink I want beside me when I curl up with a good fantasy novel. It gives you that warm, cozy feeling in your stomach, the kind that makes your shoulders drop a little and your busy thoughts quiet down.

I have also started collecting the books I have been reading lately in one place, so if you are curious, you can find my little reading list here: my book list.

🌡️ Storage

This latte is best served right away. Since it contains warm milk, coffee, whipped cream, and liqueur, I do not recommend storing it after it is fully assembled.

If you want to prep ahead, you can crush the pistachios earlier and keep them in a small airtight container until serving.

Notes

This drink contains alcohol and is intended for adults only.
Pistachio liqueur is already sweet, so taste the latte before adding anything extra.
For a stronger coffee flavor, reduce the milk slightly instead of adding more alcohol.
A tiny pinch of salt can help balance the sweetness and bring out the nutty pistachio flavor.
