This is my favorite go-to beverage on St. Patrick’s Day or a chilly autumn morning!

This simple and delicious Scotch coffee recipe is a real taste experience and feels like a warm hug on slow, sleepy weekend mornings or a nice little kick when I’m having brunch with my friends!

Lovely scotch coffee with a beautiful soft whipped cream topping. The perfect brunch beverage.

The wonderful whiskey flavor in your morning coffee is even better when paired with whipped Irish Cream! One of the best parts of this Scotch Coffee recipe, though, is that everything can be whipped together in just a few minutes!

If you’re looking to enjoy a scrumptious, boozy breakfast beverage, keep reading!

🥘 Ingredients

Three ingredients for our delicious Scotch coffee recipe.
  • Heavy Whipping Cream & a teaspoon of Sugar (for our homemade Irish cream whipped cream)
  • Brown Sugar
  • Use your finest Scotch Whiskey
  • Strong, hot coffee, freshly brewed with your favorite coffee beans

See the recipe card for quantities.

🔪 Instructions

The first thing you’ll want to do is add two teaspoons of brown sugar to two serving glasses. You’ll also want to drizzle each glass with 3–4 tablespoons of Scotch Whisky.

The next thing you’ll need to do is brew a strong, hot coffee in your coffee maker or French Press — if you’re feeling extra fancy! If using the coffee maker, brew the coffee directly into a pot. This makes it easier to pour the coffee afterward.

Once your coffee is ready, you can divide your wonderful, caffeinated beverage between the two glasses.

You could stop here and simply enjoy it as is — but personally, I think this next optional step takes this recipe to a whole other level!

If you want a little something extra, you can also add sweetened whipped cream, or even better, make your own whipped Irish Cream!

Instructions for Homemade Whipped Irish Cream

To do this, you’ll need to whip your two cups of heavy cream with a little bit of sugar until it’s semi-still.

OR — Pour Heavy creamConfectioners’ sugar, and Baileys Irish cream into a tall mixing bowl. Beat with an electric hand mixer until stiff peaks form.

Once you’ve got the right consistency, all that’s left to do is garnish your Scotch Coffee!

This recipe is best enjoyed while it’s still hot and fresh!

🍀 Variations

If you’re not the biggest fan of Scotch and would prefer to use Irish Whiskey, or another single malt whiskey instead, that’s totally fine!

At that point, you’ll just be enjoying an Irish Coffee since only whiskey made in Scotland can be called “Scotch.”

🍽 Equipment

  • Measuring Tools
  • Cannikin – small metal pitcher
  • Coffee Machine or French Press
  • Serving Glasses

🌡 Storage

Store the wet ingredients (lettuce, tomato, onion) separately from the dry ingredients (buns) in the fridge, and recombine when ready. Good for 2-3 days.

These ingredients do/don’t stand up well to freezing for X days/weeks/months.

💭 Top tips

For this Scottish coffee, it’s important you don’t “over whip” the heavy cream. You’ll want to make sure you stop whipping once you have a semi-stiff consistency — you don’t want to end up with stiff peaks!

Not only does the soft whipped cream floats wonderfully on top of your coffee, but it also looks better!

This recipe is also great on a chilly evening — but I definitely recommend brewing up a pot of decaf if you don’t want to be up all night!
