🥘 Ingredients

Ingredients for watermelon spritz with prosecco - watermelon syrup, sparkling water, prosecco.
  • Cubed ice to fill up the glasses
  • Prosecco – Originating from an Italian village sharing its name, Prosecco is a renowned Italian sparkling wine. It holds a “controlled indication of origin” (D.O.C. = Designation of Origin), indicating that only white sparkling wine from designated regions in Italy can carry the Prosecco label. Such D.O.C.s are present across the spirits industry, serving to uphold standards of quality and preserve heritage.

💭 Top tips

For the ultimate experience, serve this drink in a chilled glass!

Wondering how to chill a cocktail glass properly? Here are some practical suggestions:

Option 1: Pre-freeze your glasses for a quick chill. Give them at least 30 minutes in the freezer. For upcoming gatherings, toss them in the night before for convenience.

Option 2: If freezer space or time is limited, fill each cocktail glass with ice cubes while you prepare your garnish. When ready to serve, simply empty the ice and pour your cocktail.

🙋🏻 FAQ

What is the meaning of “spritz” in cocktails?

A spritz is a type of cocktail rooted in Italy, often served as an apéritif. Typically, it includes Prosecco, various bitters, and soda water, though this initial recipe has numerous adaptations. The term “spritz” commonly refers to the bitters utilized in well-known cocktails, such as Aperol Spritz (delicious!), Campari, and Cynar, among others.

What kind of alcohol is used in a spritz?

Prosecco is a frequent choice for crafting spritz cocktails, but there’s ample room for experimentation with a Venetian wine-based beverage. Personally, I find the Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Brut N.V. from Althea particularly delightful.

What was the original spritz?

The original spritz is believed to have originated in Italy over 200 years ago, when Austrian travelers introduced a splash or “spritz” of soda water to Italian wine.

This watermelon spritz with prosecco is a variation of our white wine-based watermelon spritzer. It is super refreshing but not as zesty because of the lack of lemon juice.

I’m so glad I still had some of the watermelon syrup I made from your recipe when I spotted this one. My man, usually not the prosecco type, got a bit overexcited about the cheeky heel pictures, so of course we had to try it (from a glass) and it was utterly delicious.
