These three sweet dips for cookies are one of my favorite staples of an Austrian Christmas! It’s been a long-standing tradition in my family to serve them alongside our homemade crispy sugar cookies, so to me, this recipe always helps to put me in the holiday spirit! Once you taste these delicious white chocolate, milk chocolate, and dark chocolate dips for yourself, you’ll be singing “Deck the Halls” all throughout the house!

Three beginner-friendly chocolate dips that only require five simple ingredients. Piped in small gorgeous Christmas dipping bowls.

In addition to being wonderfully delicious, these dips are also super simple to whip together and call for some pretty simple ingredients. It’s the perfect thing to serve at holiday parties, or after you commence your big Christmas Feast!

If you’ve got a bit of a sweet tooth, though, this creamy dessert dip can be the perfect dessert all year long. I’ve also made this during the summer season with my family, and we’ve enjoyed it with mini marshmallows, graham crackers, teddy grahams, and even waffle cone bits.

🔪 Instructions

White Chocolate Dip

No matter which of these dessert dips you’ll be making first, you’ll want to start off by mixing your cornstarch with a tablespoon of milk.

Add a tad of milk to the cornstarch.
Mix the cornstarch with the tablespoon of milk until there are no more lumps.

For this recipe, though, we’ll start with the white chocolate couverture.

You’ll need to combine your white chocolate couverture, milk, and sugar together in a small saucepan and bring it to a gentle boil.

Add the milk to the saucepan.
Add the chocolate chips to the milk.
Add the sugar to the chocolate chips with milk.
Add the cornstarch slurry.

Next, you’ll add the mixed cornstarch, stirring constantly with a whisk, and bring the mixture to a boil again.

Once you’ve brought the white chocolate mixture to a boil for a second time, you can remove it from the heat and pour it into a bowl with a lid. It’ll need to cool in the refrigerator for at least three hours.

While the first dip is in the fridge chilling, though, you can start preparing your other two dips.

Dark Chocolate Dip

Again, you’ll mix the cornstarch with a tablespoon of milk.

For your dark chocolate dip,  combine dark chocolate couverture, milk, and sugar in a small saucepan and bring it to a gentle boil.

Next, you’ll add the mixed cornstarch, stirring constantly with a whisk, and bring the mixture to a boil again before removing from the heat. You’ll pour your dark chocolate dip into a bowl with a lid and place it alongside your milk chocolate dip already chilling in the fridge.

Lastly, we’ll start on our milk chocolate dip.

Milk Chocolate Dip

Mix the cornstarch with a tablespoon of milk.

You’ll need to combine your milk chocolate couverture, milk, and sugar together in a small saucepan and bring it to a gentle boil.

Next, you’ll add the mixed cornstarch, stirring constantly with a whisk, and bring the mixture to a boil again.

Once you’ve brought the milk chocolate mixture to a boil again, you can remove it from the heat and pour it into a bowl with a lid. It’s going to need at least three hours to chill, so you can throw it in the fridge with your white chocolate and dark chocolate dips.

Personally, I like to let dips chill overnight, so I usually allow them to chill overnight the night before a big holiday party, but three hours will still give you the consistency you need!

After three hours of chilling, whip all of your heavy cream (1 ½ cups) with an electric hand mixer until stiff. You’ll divide it among the three different cold chocolate creams, then mix each well with the mixer.

In order to give a presentation that really wows your guests, fill the different dips into three separate pastry bags with a star tip and pipe them into small dipping bowls.

If you can, allow each guest to get their own small dipping bowls.

Homemade cookies are always great, but feel free to throw in some fresh fruit – like fresh strawberries! If you put out a smorgasbord of options, so to speak, each guest can sample a little bit of everything. It’ll be the party snack everyone raves about by the end of the night!

🍫 Variations

For those of you who really love chocolate, another thing you can add to this recipe is a few teaspoons of mini chocolate chips. I especially like it in the white chocolate pudding. The mini chocolate chips add a nice touch of texture, and the flavors are nice complements to each other.

🍽 Equipment

  • Saucepan – small

  • Small bowl

  • Bowl with a lid

🙋🏻 FAQ

What is good for dipping?

There are lots of things that go great with dips – veggies, chips, and crackers are all great for savory dips. If you’re feeling sweet, though, one of the best things you can have on hand for dipping is sugar cookies! If you’re hard-pressed, though, animal crackers and vanilla wafers are also pretty great too!
