🍀 Celebrating St. Patrick's Day
From the shores of Ireland to the heart of America, people across the globe get together to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day! This special day is a reminder to those with Irish heritage of the strength and spirit that live within the Irish people, but the party it is today is a long throw from the holiday’s roots.
Originally Saint Patrick’s Day was a religious holiday set on March 17th to mark the death of the legendary Saint Patrick.
Saint Patrick is more than just a legend, though. He was a real 5th-century Christian missionary who became the Bishop of Ireland. As a boy, Patrick was taken to Ireland as a slave. It was during this time that he found God, and when he was released from his chains, he returned to Ireland to convert the people from paganism to Christianity.
This little tale may be the inspiration for the old tale of Patrick leading the snakes out of Ireland. Many modern people believe the snakes that he dispelled to be a symbol of paganism, but whether he drove real snakes or metaphorical snakes from the island, the Christian traditions he brought to Ireland left a lasting impression on the people and the land.
That is why year after year people gather in his name to celebrate the endearing spirit of Ireland, because much like Patrick, Ireland has seen its share of lows but it never stays down. So this year when you toast to Ireland, remember the brave, rebellious, and resilient spirit of this tough little island!
