These toxic Halloween Jello shot syringes combine lime gelatin, vodka, and blue curaçao into one seriously green party shot. They are easy to make ahead, wonderfully creepy on a Halloween drinks table, and just as much fun served in little skull-shaped shot glasses.

Toxic green Jello shot syringes with Halloween poison bottles

Apparently, I am having a very green Halloween this year.

It started with my Poison Apple Frozen Margarita, and clearly one radioactive-looking recipe was not enough. So next up are these bright green Halloween Jello shots with lime, vodka, and blue curaçao, all loaded into syringes that look just questionable enough sitting on a party table.

Exactly what Halloween calls for.

The color is incredibly intense, while the blue curaçao adds another layer of citrus and the vodka keeps things properly boozy. They are sweet, simple to make, and especially handy when you want to get some of the Halloween prep out of the way before anyone arrives.

And judging by how quickly they disappeared, everyone else was pretty happy with them too.

If you are putting together a full Halloween spread, add a batch of Halloween Root Beer Muffins and bring some red to the table with my Spooky Old Pal Cocktail. A Black Velvet Cocktail gives you something darker and moodier to round things out.

A few edible gummy worms or gummy eye balls never hurt either.

Happy Halloween! 👻

What you’ll love about this recipe:

  • INTENSELY GREEN: These come out a vivid, almost radioactive green that looks right at home on a Halloween table.
  • CITRUSY: Lime and blue curaçao bring plenty of bright citrus flavor, with vodka adding the boozy kick.
  • EASY: Dissolve, stir, fill, and chill. There really is not much more to it.
  • MAKE-AHEAD: Prepare them the day before your Halloween party and keep them chilled until you need them.
  • FUN TO SERVE: Fill Jello shot syringes for the full creepy effect, or pour some of the mixture into skull-shaped shot glasses for an easy alternative.

How to Make Jello Shot Syringes

Dissolve the lime gelatin

Add the lime gelatin to a heatproof measuring jug or bowl. Pour in the boiling water and whisk until completely dissolved.

Add the alcohol

Stir in the vodka, blue curaçao, and cold water until everything is well combined.

Check the color

Mine was already wonderfully intense, but if yours needs a little extra push, stir in one or two drops of green food coloring.

Let the mixture cool slightly

Give it a few minutes to cool down, but do not leave it sitting long enough for the gelatin to start setting.

Fill the syringes

Draw the liquid slowly into clean, food-safe syringes. Pulling the plunger back gently helps keep large air bubbles to a minimum.

Fill the shot glasses

Divide some of the remaining mixture between your small shot glasses. I like using a mix of 5 ml and 10 ml syringes together with the glasses for a Halloween party.

Arrange everything for chilling

Place the filled syringes on a tray or in a shallow container so they stay put, then set the shot glasses alongside them.

Chill until set

Refrigerate for 3 to 4 hours, or until completely firm. Keep the shot glasses chilled until serving, and let the syringes sit out briefly beforehand if they are very firm straight from the fridge.

A Note About the Texture: One thing I noticed while testing these: they set quite firmly.

That actually worked beautifully in the skull-shaped shot glasses. The Jello held together well and had that proper bouncy texture you want from a Jello shot.

Straight from the refrigerator, though, the syringes take a little more effort to push.

The easiest fix is simply to take them out a little before serving. Gelatin softens slightly as it loses that refrigerator chill, which makes a firm Jello shot easier to push through the syringe.

You are not trying to warm them up. Just give them a little time outside the fridge. Keep the shot-glass servings well chilled until you are ready for them.

Tips & Tricks

  • Fill the syringes while the mixture is still liquid. Once the gelatin starts setting, getting it neatly into those little syringes becomes much more difficult.
  • Pull the plunger back slowly. This helps keep big air pockets to a minimum.
  • Check the color before reaching for food coloring. Mine already had plenty of color without needing much help.
  • Make them the day before. This is one very easy Halloween party job to cross off your list early.
  • Let the syringes sit out briefly before serving. Very cold, firm Jello shots are easier to push out once they lose a little of that refrigerator chill.
  • Mix up the serving sizes. I like a combination of 5 ml syringes, 10 ml syringes, and at least 10 small shot glasses for a party. It looks more interesting on the table too.

FAQ’s

Can You Make Halloween Jello Shots Ahead?

Absolutely. In fact, I would. Make them the day before your Halloween party, cover them, and keep them refrigerated until you need them.

For the syringes, take them out shortly before serving so they can lose a little of that refrigerator chill and become easier to push out.

The skull shot glasses can stay chilled until almost the last minute. If you have any leftovers, get them back into the refrigerator promptly.

What Do These Toxic Jello Shots Taste Like?

Bright, citrusy, sweet, and boozy. The lime gelatin does most of the flavor work, while the blue curaçao brings in sweet orange-citrus notes. The vodka gives them their kick without taking over.

The wild green color may be what catches everyone’s eye first, but that lime and orange-citrus combination makes them just as fun once you actually taste them.

Notes

For a Halloween party, I recommend mixing 5 ml and 10 ml Jello shot syringes with at least 10 small shot glasses instead of making every serving identical.
One batch gives you roughly 40 to 45 mixed-size servings, depending on how generously you fill the syringes and glasses.
These Jello shots set fairly firmly, which worked especially well in my skull-shaped shot glasses.
Only use clean, food-safe syringes without needles.
These shots contain alcohol and are intended for adults.
