💕 Celebrating Valentine's Day
Valentine’s Day celebrations have changed a lot throughout the years. Originally, Saint Valentine’s Day was a Christian feast day set to honor the martyred Saint Valentine.
Saint Valentine was a documented person of faith; however, over time the stories of his past have transmuted to include more romance. It is said he was imprisoned and eventually killed for performing marriage ceremonies for Roman soldiers.
Originally, stories of his imprisonment and sentencing included a tale of him using his faith to heal his captor’s daughter. Yet, as time moved forward the stories changed to include some more romantic details, including an alleged love letter to the daughter he healed.
Whether Valentine was a hopeless romantic or not, his story had a strong hold over 14th and 15th-century royals. They were infatuated with the idea of springtime love matches and enjoyed exchanging heartfelt cards at this time of year. And so, the tradition of exchanging affectionate cards on Valentine’s Day was born!
Today, Valentine’s is not always about finding your forever love match, but it’s an excellent excuse to spoil that special someone. Whether they’re your child, your partner, your friend, or yourself, everyone enjoys a little love on Valentine’s!
💕 Sweet Valentine’s Traditions
Valentine’s Day has a sweet spot in the heart of my family. My husband and I were both gamers, and we loved to play MMORPGs together. In standard fashion, he was a druid tank, and I was a paladin healer, so you can say we were meant to be! In those early Valentine's Days together, we would order a heart-shaped pizza. Years later, it is still my favorite V-Day tradition.
That is why I like getting in the love-dovey spirit with some food! The custom of exchanging sweets and treats on Valentine’s has been around for decades, but long before that, Valentine’s Day was a feast!
The range of delicious Valentine’s Day traditions is broad, from pizza to dessert pizza, but there is really no better way to share with someone you love than to eat together. Except maybe to heal them after the battle!
